Peroxisomes
A peroxisome is an organelle found in most eukaryotic cells that aids in the catabolism, breaking down of molecules into smaller units that are used for either energy or other reactions, of fatty acid chains, D-amino acids, and the reduction of hydrogen peroxide. The primary function of the peroxisome is to break down large fatty acid chains into smaller chains which (in animal cells) are then transferred to the mitochondria where they get broken down into carbon dioxide and water.
