Lysosomes
- What are lysosomes? Lysosomes function as the cell's digestive system, which in turn breaks down proteins, acids, carbohydrates, etc.
- What causes lysosomes to break down food? Lysosomes contain enzymes that break down the food. These enzymes are made in the rough ER.
- Where are lysosomes located at? They are located in the cytoplasm.
- Lysosomes also carry hydrolytic enzymes, which allow it to repair itself if it becomes damaged (process is called autophagy).
